One of the coolest things Downtown Fresno has done is happening again for the first time in nearly a decade this holiday season – can you guess what it is? If you guessed that they’re bringing back the outdoor ice rink, you’re correct! With Fresno’s mild winters, the recent development and growth on Fulton Street, and even a global pandemic in the mix, it must have been quite a feat to bring back the joy of the outdoor ice rink to Downtown Fresno — but I’m thrilled that it’s happening this year! First, the Winter Market that will be taking place surrounding the rink offers a unique opportunity for local business owners. It’s a great chance to meet new customers, sell delicious treats, warm drinks, or handmade holiday gifts. (And for shoppers who love gifting items made by local small businesses, the Winter Market will be a win for you, too!) If you’re interested in being part of the market as a seller, now’s the time to reserve your spot! Secondly, with so many people’s holiday schedules filling up quickly, there are some special themed nights at the rink you may want to attend. Consider this your early heads-up so you can mark your calendar before these events and your personal calendar book up! Image credit: Downtown Fresno Ice Rink Now for the essentials: the Downtown Fresno Ice Rink will operate from December 10th through January 12th. Located at 1939 Mariposa Street near Fulton Street, right across from the big Fulton clock tower, it will be open from 4 pm to 10 pm Monday through Thursday, 4 pm to midnight on Fridays, 10 am to midnight on Saturdays, and 10 am to 8 pm on Sundays. Skate rentals will be available for both children and adults. To guarantee your spot on the ice, it’s recommended that you book your session online in advance, as on-site ticket sales are not guaranteed to meet demand and ensure the rink is not overcrowded at any given time. Ticket and skate rental pricing, along with online booking, will be available here soon. The rink will be open rain or shine, but if you pre-purchase tickets and the weather doesn’t cooperate to your liking, you’ll be able to reschedule within the rink’s operating dates. Beyond that, every Thursday will be BFF night, and Friday nights will cater to couples, with themed markets, live performances, and music tailored to each crowd! (I anticipate performance artists and other themed dates will be announced soon, so I recommend following the ice rink’s Instagram to stay updated on new developments.)
