FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A Fort Wayne woman convicted of multiple counts of felony neglect in a case where three children under her care suffered bruising all over their bodies will serve a year in the Allen County Community Corrections.
An Allen Superior Court judge sentenced Elicia Hurmon to five years in prison Thursday but suspended four of those years and ordered the one executed year of her sentence to be served in the community corrections electronic monitoring program, according to court records.
Fort Wayne woman faces 5 felony counts, accused of leaving children bruised with belt
Hurmon, 36, had been accused of using a belt and her hand to beat children in her care, according to court documents. One of the children in her care, a 4-month-old, suffered "significant" bruising to her legs.

The sentence came after Hurmon accepted a plea deal with prosecutors where she pleaded guilty to three Level 5 felony counts of neglect of a dependent resulting in bodily injury. Two felony counts of domestic battery to someone younger than 14 were dropped as part of the deal.
The biological mother of the children in Hurmon's care died in January 2023. Their father was in prison at the time and arranged for the children to live with Hurmon, according to court documents.
Two of the children - ages 6 and 7 at the time - reportedly slept on the floor and did not have a bed to use, court documents said. Those children would later tell investigators Hurmon would beat them with a belt or her hand.
In March 2023, the Indiana Department of Child Services contacted the Fort Wayne Police Department about the suspected abuse.
When all three children were taken to a hospital for a medical exam shortly afterward, each had bruising all over their bodies, according to court documents. The 4-month-old not only had bruising on her leg but was "severely" underweight for her age, court documents said.
Hurmon was ordered to serve four years on probation as part of her sentence and given credit for 36 days served in Allen County Jail, according to court records.
