The long-awaited grand opening of The Duchess, Hampden’s newest restaurant, will be spread over two nights and will be a fundraiser for a good cause, with tickets priced at $175 plus tax. That brings the bill to $188.58 per person.“Join Us for an Unforgettable Party at The Duchess!” states an Eventbrite invitation to the affair, scheduled for Dec. 4 and 5. “Celebrate two nights of live music and community at Tony Foreman’s newest restaurant, The Duchess. This special party features local singer-songwriter Katie Callahan, followed by a performance from Penny & Sparrow. All proceeds from the evening will benefit B’more for Healthy Babies, supporting women’s and children’s health initiatives.”The latest venture of Foreman Wolf, The Duchess is opening in the former Café Hon space at 1000 West 36th Street. Signs that the opening is close have been noticeable for weeks, from fresh paint on the building’s wood trim to new lettering on the front window.Chef Kiko Fejarang and Tony Foreman. The interior design by Katie DeStefano is inspired by “the friendly spirit of English pubs,” and the menu will feature the Chamorro cuisine of the Mariana Islands, including Guam, with items ranging in price from $11 to $50.Attorney Caroline Hecker told Baltimore’s liquor board that Foreman is investing close to $2 million in capital improvements. The goal, the owners say, is to create “the ultimate neighborhood hangout” in Hampden.Guests at the two opening nights will be treated to “curated big and small snacks” from Fejarang, drinks and a concert. Doors open at 6 p.m., with performances starting at 8 p.m. The suggested dress code is “eclectic, cocktail attire.” Limited valet parking is available for $10 per vehicle. The beneficiary of the fundraiser, B’more for Healthy Babies (@bmore4healthybabies), is a community-focused initiative led by the Baltimore City Health Department to improve maternal and child health outcomes across the city, especially in areas with high infant mortality rates.Through partnerships with residents, healthcare providers, and local organizations, BHB offers health education, access to healthcare and support services such as home visits and prenatal care for families in need. The initiative also emphasizes equity by addressing social determinants of health such as poverty and structural inequality to promote healthier pregnancies, safer births and stronger, healthier families.Tickets to the Dec. 4 and 5 events can be purchased through Eventbrite at: The Duchess Grand Opening.
