PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A man from New York pled guilty Tuesday to 15 indictments related to his role in an organized theft ring targeting Berkshire Bank locations. Pittsfield man found guilty of rape, witness intimidation 57-year-old Angel Nunez faced charges stemming from attempts to fraudulently withdraw funds during three visits to Berkshire Bank branches on June 23, June 26, and July 10, 2023. The Berkshire District Attorney’s Office recommended a two-year sentence in the House of Corrections. However, Nunez’s defense requested house arrest, citing his ongoing medical issues. Judge Agostini ultimately sentenced Nunez to two years of probation, with the condition that he refrain from committing further crimes. According to the Berkshire County DA's Office, Nunez experienced a severe medical event while awaiting trial. His condition necessitates medical care beyond what the House of Corrections can provide, leading the court to opt for probation over incarceration.
