PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — An iconic Tex-Mex restaurant in Providence is up for sale. Tortilla Flats, affectionately known by locals as "The Flats," is on the market for $1.3 million, according to an online listing. The cost includes the real estate and the restaurant's equipment, fixtures, and furniture. The popular Hope Street restaurant and cantina first opened back in 1973 but has been owned and operated by Joanne and Matt Vincent since 2006. The Vincents' decision to sell their beloved restaurant was first reported by The Boston Globe. Though extensive interior and exterior renovations have been made over the years, the Vincents spent quite some time perfecting the restaurant's long-standing menu. Tortilla Flats' staples include signature margaritas, burritos, fajitas, chimichangas and tacos. The listing notes that their efforts "to update but not change what makes Tortilla Flats so successful" resulted in a 100% increase in annual revenue from 2006 to 2019. In a social media post Wednesday afternoon, Vincent wrote that she and her husband "are ready for [their] next chapter." "It is definitely not time to say goodbye yet," she wrote. "So for now, I'll say see you this week." Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now Daily Roundup SIGN UP NOW
