TULARE, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - At 17, Sophia Park of Tulare County is the youngest to pass the California Bar Exam, beating her brother's record in 2023. The California General Bar Exam is no easy task. In fact, it has a pass rate of only 51%. But it was no problem for the Parks. A home video captured the moment Sophia found out she passed the exam. Just a year earlier, her family experienced this same excitement, when her older brother, Peter, also passed the California Bar. At that time, he broke the record at 17 years and 11 months old.  Now, Sophia has surpassed him, passing the exam at just 17 years and 8 months old. "People tell us, 'Hey, you know, I think you guys are so much more excited when Peter passed the bar and then with you', it's like, oh, it was expected that you would pass the law," Sophia said.  At 13, she simultaneously started law school while attending junior high.  But halfway through her freshman year of high school, "I decided that I wanted to just pursue law school and just focus on that, only because high school is taking up a lot of my time." So she took the California High School Proficiency Exam, so she could study law full time. And of course, she passed the bar with a breeze. "I don't think it was like extremely difficult, but I do think there was difficulty in how much you had to put into your brain in a limited period of time." Like her brother, Sophia became a Law Clerk at the Tulare County District Attorney's Office at the beginning of 2024. "We're so excited for her, for her brother and really the family, it's quite remarkable," said Tulare County DA Tim Ward.  Now she waits to turn 18 to be sworn in as a Tulare County Deputy District Attorney. "People do say like, wow, you're so young, but sometimes I forget about my age too, in my perspective, I'm just a law clerk who passed the bar exam and will become an attorney, I'm really looking forward to working as an attorney," said Sophia. Her impressive accomplishments at such a young age are setting the bar high for even greater achievements to come.
