ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – After waiting for nearly five years, the Bernalillo County Fire Department received a brand new fire truck on Wednesday. Fire departments around the country have a special ceremony for just such an occasion by pushing the truck into the station. Albuquerque and Bernalillo County set to use up COVID-19 relief funds before deadline "The push-in ceremony dates back to the early days of the fire service. When they had horse and carriage drawn fire trucks, and they got done with the fire, and they made it back to the station... It was a ritual to first clean the carriage, disconnect the horses, and they would push it back into the station. And that ceremony was continued and done ritually," said Chief Greg Perez, Bernalillo County Fire Rescue, Deputy County Manager. The department has 2 more trucks on order. "This truck was ordered just before COVID. We're experiencing about a 45-month lag from when we order a truck, to when it's built and brought to us. This is the first of three trucks that were ordered around that same timeline," said Chief Perez. Along with better communication tech and more conveniently located equipment, this truck is equipped with more lights.
