INDIANAPOLIS -- A woman has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection to the stabbing death of a man in Barton Towers Apartments in downtown Indy.
Online court records show Tationa Sims, 30, has been formally charged with involuntary manslaughter death, a level 5 felony, after 65-year-old Forest Hill Jr. was found dead in his 14th-floor apartment in late September. At the time, police found Hill's body suffering from multiple stab wounds.
IMPD arrested Sims last week after reviewing video surveillance footage which appeared to show her leaving the victim's apartment. Police said the footage also showed Sims appearing to place a knife in her backpack.
FOX59/CBS4 previously spoke with members of Hill's family, who confirmed Sims and the victim had been living together for a few weeks before the deadly encounter.
Court documents show that after her arrest, Sims allegedly told investigators she had acted out of self-defense. She went on to reportedly tell detectives that she was surprised to learn that the victim had died from his wounds, claiming she was "barely poking him."
Sims is set to appear in a jury trial at 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 15 in Marion Superior Court 31.
