The Fire Weather Watch is in effect from Friday morning through the afternoon for leeward areas across all Hawaiian Islands. Forecasters warn that the combination of dry fuels, low humidity, and strong winds could lead to critical fire conditions. Winds are expected to range from 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph, while humidity levels could drop to between 40 to 50 percent.
This combination of conditions could contribute to extreme fire behavior, particularly in areas with dry vegetation. The National Weather Service is urging the public to avoid outdoor burning, and a Red Flag Warning may be issued if conditions worsen.

Wind Advisory for Maui and HaleakalaIn addition to the fire risk, a Wind Advisory is in effect for the Maui Central Valley and the north and south slopes of Haleakala until 6 p.m. Thursday. These areas are expected to experience sustained east winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph. The strong winds may cause tree branches to fall, blow away tents and awnings, and make it difficult to steer, especially for high-profile vehicles.
Precautionary ActionsFor both the Fire Weather Watch and Wind Advisory, residents are urged to take precautions:
Be aware of the potential for falling tree branches when walking or driving in affected areas
Secure tents and awnings, or take them down to prevent damage from the winds
Prepare for power outages and check emergency equipment like flashlights and battery-powered radios
Avoid outdoor burning and heed any additional warnings or advisories from the National Weather Service
If a Red Flag Warning is issued, do not engage in outdoor burning activities
