LCPD to host news conference on apartment complex officerinvolved shooting

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - The Las Cruces Police Department (LCPD) will hold a news conference this week to provide information on the officer-involved shooting that occurred on Monday, Nov. 11 outside a Las Cruces apartment complex, the department announced in a news release.

The news conference will be held at 9 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 15 in Council Chambers at Las Cruces City Hall, 700 N. Main St.
At around 10:30 p.m., officers responded to the 1300 block of S. Espina St. to reports of a man armed with a gun yelling outside an apartment complex.
LCPD said upon arrival, an LCPD officer encountered an armed man, identified as Danny Garcia De Leon, 50. The incident resulted in an officer firing at least one round and De Leon being shot at least once, which he received medical attention for.
As we previously reported, De Leon was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center and was charged with aggravated assault and aggravated assault on a peace officer with no bond, according to Dona Ana County jail records.
No officers were injured in the incident, according to LCPD.
The Officer Involved Incident Task Force includes investigators from New Mexico State Police, the Las Cruces Police Department, the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office and New Mexico State University Police.
LCPD said the task force collects evidence, conducts interviews, and is responsible for investigating this incident.
