BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- With a special visit from Santa Claus himself Kern County Human Services has opened the annual Holiday Cottage in south Bakersfield, bringing the early Christmas spirit to make hundreds of kids' wishes come true.
"You don't realize how much our parents go through to get us exactly what we want, exact color," said Gloria Luna

Luna's foster child received gifts from the Holiday Cottage years ago, but she remembers it like it was yesterday.
"Just like the wow factor, you know? They were like: This is it! This is what I wanted! I remember that very vividly," Luna said. "They would say this is exactly what I wanted."
"We currently have over a thousand children in foster care but typically we try to fill as many as we can," said Kristy Torres with the Holiday Cottage. "As of right now we're at 700 wishes but we definitely -- the more wishes we get, the more we try to fill this season."

Making sure their children have gifts gives parents some peace going into the holiday season.
"Relieved! Felt very relieved and also just full of joy and grateful, gratitude, just to see the kids' faces light up when they got to open those gifts," said Gloria Luna.
The Holiday Cottage is at 3043 Wilson Road near the Valley Plaza Mall. It has lists for children and others up to 21. You can take on as many as you wish. You can also make a monetary donation for others to purchase kids' wish lists. If you can't make it out in person, you can also shop on their website here.
