BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A teen riding a bicycle was pronounced dead after being hospitalized due to a vehicle collision in northeast Bakersfield, officials said. The collision was reported just before 3 p.m., at Columbus and Loyola streets. Bakersfield Fire Department officials said the 13-year-old boy was taken to Kern Medical for treatment, where he was later pronounced deceased. Police say the driver was traveling westbound on Columbus Street and collided with the bicyclist, who was traveling south on Loyola Street. Alcohol, drugs and speed do not appear to be factors in the collision, based on the preliminary investigation. Police said the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.
