FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - More than 1,000 children will receive a shopping spree in Fresno in an effort to empower them in the classroom, the Assistance League of Fresno announced. Officials say on Nov. 16 and Nov. 1, 1,400 pre-selected school children will receive $100 to shop for their school outfits at Fresno Burlington Stores. The Assistance League of Fresno says the initiative is intended to encourage kids to attend school with "joy and confidence." The event is being run by the organization's Operation School Bell program. Since its inception in 1990, the program has clothed over 80,000 children.
