(KRON) -- The suspect in over a dozen arsons in Alameda was arrested early Tuesday morning after a police officer saw them igniting a fire near the Bridgeside Shopping Center, the Alameda Police Department announced. Authorities have responded to over 15 potential arson fires near the shopping center recently, including three fires between Sunday and Monday, the police department said. Alameda PD worked with local businesses in order to monitor the area due to safety concerns. Suspect sought in fatal stabbing near Embarcadero BART station On Tuesday at around 3 a.m., an Alameda PD officer saw a person who matched the description of the arson suspect. The suspect ignited a fire as the officer watched and began to walk away, police said. The officer then moved in and arrested the suspect. The Alameda Police Department thanked the local businesses for their help in identifying the suspect and preventing more fires from occurring.
