WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) -- The Wichita school district has recorded its highest graduation rate in district history.
Wichita Public Schools saw a 5.1% increase in graduation rates from the class of 2023 to the class of 2024, which was 84.3%.
"That's about 178 more students who graduated than last year," Assistant Superintendent Dr. Loren Hatfield said. "It is the largest jump we have taken in one year and the highest graduation rate Wichita Public Schools has ever had."

Wichita Superintendent Kelly Bielefeld credits investments in programs rather than buildings when they decided to close some schools earlier this year.
"It does take resources," he said. "We do have to invest in order to help kids, especially some of our kids that take extra when it comes to these things. But I think that you can see that there was a strategy involved. We made hard decisions."
The district aims to hit an 85% graduation rate by 2029.
