SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Santa Fe Police Department is increasing its presence at school zones throughout the city. The department said they have received requests for extra patrols at schools like Ortiz Middle School, Ramirez Thomas Elementary, and El Camino Real Academy with parents seeing speeding, and cars dropping off or picking up students outside loading zones.

SFPD also reached out on social media to encourage people to drive safely. "By this point in time, we would hope that folks would be aware of it. We understand during the summers they have a break from it. But again, a helpful reminder to avoid a tragedy from occurring and, above all, making sure our students to school safe and return home safe as well," said SFPD Deputy Chief Ben Valdez.
SFPD said parents are welcome to express their concerns about driving safety and ask for extra patrols at their schools.
