DOJ, Providence schools settle case over Newcomer Academy

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Boston Globe Rhode Island reporter Steph Machado joined Kim Kalunian on 12 News at 4 Wednesday to share the outcome of a case involving the civil rights of multilingual learners in Providence.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Newcomer Academy, a Providence high school that serves new immigrants over the age of 17, was failing to provide students with the education they are entitled to under federal law.
