BOSTON (WPRI) — The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) is expanding the number of languages offered for those taking commercial learner's permit (CLP) exams. It is now officially available in Spanish and Portuguese to help boost job opportunities and support for local businesses. To apply for a CLP, the applicant must be a Massachusetts resident, at least 18 years old, live in the United States and have an active passenger driver's license. "Making the exam available in additional languages will give more residents an opportunity to get a credential which will make them eligible for many job opportunities and will also support the needs of businesses, school systems, and other employers who need CDL holders to provide essential services," Transportation Secretary and CEO Monica Tibbits-Nutt said in a press release. The road test is still required to be administered in English, per federal regulation, and the use of an interpreter is not allowed.
