(WFRV) - With the nine-day deer gun hunting season approaching, Brown County Parks announced that some of the park areas in the County Park System will be closed during that time. The parks listed below will close at sunrise on Nov. 23 through sunset on Dec. 1 to allow for the hunting season. Green Bay firefighters, Fleet Farm team up to support animals affected by fires Barkhausen Waterfowl Preserve and For Howard Paper Foundation Wildlife Area Trails and grounds will close to all entry during the season except to those with a valid County special hunters permit. Those permits have been issued. The Interpretive Center at Barkhausen will be open during regular hours. Reforestation Camp All trails will be closed during the season. Playground and fishing ponds will remain open to the public. Lily Lake Park Picnic grounds and boat launch will remain open. Visitors should be aware that gun hunting is allowed in specific areas of the property, however. Vande Hei Property Only open to hunter access during the season, non-hunters are not allowed on the property until the season ends. Anybody who does visit specific areas that are open is highly encouraged to wear blaze orange for safety when in the areas, or at any other open park during the season. Anybody who is hunting is required to do so as well. On Broadway, Inc. sets up ‘Cozy Igloos’ for those looking for a ‘warm’ winter night Those who do go hunting are advised that it is prohibited to hunt on the Fox River Trail and Mountain-Bay Trail. Hiking and biking are allowed on the trails but private property adjacent to them may be open to hunting. Hikers and bikers should consider wearing blaze orange for safety. Designated hunting areas can be seen on maps in the Parks Office or by calling the department. They are also available on the Brown County Parks website.
