MONONA, Wis. (WFRV) - Police in southern Wisconsin are crediting street cameras with assisting in a stolen vehicle incident on Tuesday afternoon. According to a release, shortly before 12:45 p.m., Monona police officers were alerted to a stolen vehicle identified by a Flock Camera System in Monona. Crews work to put out Appleton house fire before spreading to nearby home, $120K in damages Officers responded to the area and located the vehicle as it traveled along Monona Drive. Authorities quickly verified that the car was reported stolen out of Sun Prairie. Officers observed the vehicle enter the parking lot of the Walgreens at Monona Drive and Pflaum Road. The occupants were seen wearing full-face ski masks, suggesting criminal activity. As officers approached, the vehicle fled north on Monona Drive. Due to traffic conditions, the department suspended the pursuit for safety reasons. An undercover officer later observed the stolen vehicle passing Monona Grove High School and approaching Buckeye Road in an area free of pedestrians. Given the conditions, the Monona Police Department continued efforts to safely stop the vehicle. The suspect traveled onto Highway 51 and eventually accessed Highway 30, later entering Interstate 90 toward Janesville. The release states that a successful tire deflation device was deployed, slowing the vehicle. The driver eventually stopped along the interstate, and both the driver and a willing passenger were taken into custody. Multiple Wisconsin emergency services respond to semi-truck and farm implement crash Both individuals were identified using a fingerprint ID database, and officers learned that the driver, a juvenile, was wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet at the time of the incident. No other damage was reported beyond flattened tires. The stolen vehicle was processed and returned to its owner.
