FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A man was arrested in Fort Wayne Wednesday in connection to a 2001 cold case, according to the Fort Wayne Police Department.
Tommy Harris Jr., 43, faces preliminary charges of felony murder and burglary. FWPD said he was taken into custody without incident in the 4400 block of Lillie Street.
It's a short drive from the 5300 block of McClellan Street downtown, the scene of a homicide over two decades ago. A man named Larry Lovelace Jr. was killed there on June 27, 2001. Harris would have been roughly 20 years old at the time.
Following the homicide, the News-Sentinel reported Lovelace was 29 and police were investigating a possible connection to a man who died on the same day. In a 2005 story, the News-Sentinel said Lovelace was one of three siblings killed by gun violence.
FWPD homicide detectives and the Gang and Violent Crimes Unit worked together to apprehend Harris, who is being held at the Allen County Jail.
Details have not been shared on how Harris was linked to the case.
