(MONUMENT, Colo.) — The suspect who hit and killed 47-year-old Kristy Kerst at a McDonald's parking lot earlier in November said he purposely continued driving because he didn't have insurance, according to the arrest affidavit for 41-year-old Joel Lang. The incident occurred on Monday, Nov. 4 around 11:45 a.m., when both Kerst and Lang were at the McDonald's drive-thru on Baptist Road. Lang was asked to wait in parking spot 1 while Kerst was asked to wait in parking spot 2 as they were told someone would bring their food to them when it was done. He then repositioned and continued to back out of his parking spot to leave, that's when Kerst and her daughter exited the vehicle to contact Lang.
