Soggy Shivery Thursday Ahead
Nov 13, 2024
Happy Hump Day! The Charlotte area saw its coldest morning in nearly four weeks today as lows dipped into the 20s, 30s, and 40s. While temperatures won’t dip as low this Wednesday evening, they won’t rise much on Thursday, either. A moisture-laden rainmaking system will bring scattered showers into the WCCB Charlotte viewing area by sunrise, becoming widespread by the afternoon. Some sleet may mix in with the rain in our mountain communities early Thursday morning before quickly transitioning to all rain. Both sides of your commute will be a mess; plan accordingly for significant delays, especially as you head home. Highs will struggle to get out of the 40s across the board thanks to the overcast skies and washout conditions. Most of the moisture will exit to the northwest by 9 PM; most communities will see close to an inch of rain.
The sunshine returns in full force on Friday, and temperatures will respond accordingly. Expect highs to soar back into the mid-60s in the Piedmont and Foothills, while jumping into the 50s in the High Country. The good times will roll into the weekend as temperatures steadily rise close to 70°.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is Potential Tropical Cyclone Nineteen in the western Caribbean. The fledgling system will likely become Tropical Storm Sara over the next 48 hours as it approaches Central America. Models have been pointing to future Sara slowly tracking northwest towards the Yucatán Peninsula this weekend before landfall by the start of next week. How strong the storm remains after landfall is key; medium-range guidance suggests future Sara will make a sharp easterly turn after it enters the Gulf. We’ll keep you weather-wise as the forecast becomes clearer.
