HARTSVILLE, S.C. (WBTW) -- Hartsville's two top fire officials and a third person were terminated Wednesday over undisclosed "policy violations," a city spokeswoman told News13.
Chief Jeff Burr, a 39-year veteran of the department who took the top job in 2010 -- was let go along with Assistant Chief Jason Bell. Officials did not identify who the third person was.
"We at the City of Hartsville are accountable for all the dollars spent as stewards of taxpayers' money. We take the roles and responsibilities entrusted to us extremely seriously," City Manager Daniel Moore said in a note to employees provided to News13.
Burr declined to comment on Wednesday.
Moore in the letter urged all employees to "re-familiarize yourself with our purchasing policy, secondary work policy and social media policies. The city will not tolerate any deviation from them."
Officials said police chief Byron Snellgrove is overseeing operations for the fire department in a transitional role.
