Officials released the name of the man who died in a police shooting after a hostage negotiation on Sunday.
The Idaho Statesman reports an officer fatally shot a suspect after a third party reported “concerning behavior and a possible hostage situation” in which a man armed with a knife was threatening another man inside a home on the 1300 block of North Liberty in West Boise.
The Ada County Coroner’s Office identified the suspect as 47-year-old Guadalupe Reyes, of Boise.
The Police Department attempted to negotiate with the suspect and the victim was able to safely exit the residence and, as officers moved in to assist the victim, the suspect also emerged armed with a knife, and an officer then fired his gun, hitting the suspect.
The coroner listed Reyes’ cause of death as “multiple gunshot wounds” and his manner of death as homicide.
The officer involved was placed on leave.
Law enforcement is investigating what happened between the two men before officers arrived.
The Ada County Sheriff’s Office will lead the Ada County Critical Incident Task Force in investigating the police shooting.
