WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- Customers traveling on the Metro in December can expect closures and delays across three lines due to construction. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) said some stations along the Blue, Orange and Silver lines will be closed for a construction project from Dec. 20 to Dec. 30. During the 11-day project, crews will replace grout pads, fasteners and studs, weld open joints, upgrade platform edge lighting and more. Officials said free shuttle buses will run every 8 to 10 minutes on weekdays and every 8 to 12 minutes on weekends and holidays. However, certain shuttles will not run on weekends and holidays. All shuttle buses will use the existing bus lanes on H and I streets to speed travel, according to WMATA. Phase 1| Closures for Dec. 20 to Dec. 26 The first phase of the construction project will take place between Dec. 20 and Dec. 26. Officials said Farragut West, McPherson Square, and the lower level (Blue, Orange, Silver service) at Metro Center will be closed to all customers. This includes stops at all affected stations. Three express shuttles will be available at Foggy Bottom to Federal Triangle, Foggy Bottom to Gallery Place, and Foggy Bottom to Farragut North Customers using the Orange Line toward Foggy Bottom and beyond, must transfer to the Silver Line at Clarden. During this time, Farragut West, McPherson Square, lower level (Blue, Orange, Silver service) at Metro Center, Federal Triangle, Smithsonian, and the lower level of L'Enfant Plaza (Blue, Orange, Silver service) will be closed.  Shuttles will be available between Foggy Bottom and Federal Center SW. Metro said shuttles will stop at all stations impacted by construction. There will also be three express shuttles available for Foggy Bottom to Federal Center SW, Foggy Bottom to Gallery Place, and Foggy Bottom to Farragut North. All stations will reopen on Dec. 31.
