Condo complex floods in Allied Gardens, forcing families out

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Families were forced out of their homes Tuesday night after an condo complex flooded in Allied Gardens.
The incident occurred just before 11 p.m. in the 5100 block of Fontaine Street. People in the Villa Fontaine community were either sleeping or getting ready to go to sleep when the roaring rapids came through.
Water could be seen flowing down the stairs of the building and into the street. Residents quickly evacuated, some of them needing to be escorted by first responders.
Residents say the water was about 3-foot deep in some areas of the complex.
Those impacted by the flooding grabbed what belongings they could, with many now looking for a place to stay as the matter is assessed.
Once daylight hit some residents worked on trying to salvage as much as possible from their units, which suffered significant water damage.
The cause of the flooding is due to a ruptured pipe, though no further details are known at this time. One thing is certain: it's going to take a long time to clean up and to make the necessary repairs to the condos that were damaged.
