Detour routes released for upcoming Topeka I70 closure
Nov 13, 2024
TOPEKA (KSNT) – Kansas transportation officials will be closing part of I-70 in Topeka this weekend along with a nearby ramp for construction work.
Joseph Harrington with the City of Topeka said in a press release that the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) is set to close eastbound I-70 at Gage Boulevard from 11 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17. Workers will also close the eastbound I-70 on-ramp at MacVicar Avenue.
Harrington said the work will focus on pavement repairs and will cause traffic to be detoured. Drivers will need to follow the following instructions while the work is taking place:
Drivers on eastbound I-70 will go to southbound Gage Boulevard, then to eastbound 10th Avenue and back on to Eastbound I-70.
Oversized loads will be directed to I-470 south then back to eastbound I-70.
KDOT initially announced this project back in October. However, it was pushed back to the weekend of Nov. 15-17.
