TOPEKA (KSNT) - The Kansas Department of Labor (KDOL) is set to unveil a newly revamped unemployment system this week. The KDOL computer system has long been out of date and in need of an overhaul. Kansans seeking unemployment help in the shadow of the COVID-19 Pandemic hit the website hard and it struggled to keep up. KDOL officials said the state's antiquated computer system hadn't undergone an update since the 1970s. Now, with the pandemic over, the state is ready to roll out its new system. It features more modern technology and upgraded security measures. "What climates can expect in this new system, is that it looks like a modern system so there is dashboards and to do list, and it's easy to navigate, you can use a mouse, with on our system right now, you cannot use a mouse," said Amber Shultz with the KDOL. Kansans will be unable to use the unemployment contact center and website starting at 5 p.m. on Nov. 13. State officials hope the new system will be ready for use by the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 19.
