RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- In partnership with the City of Richmond, The Salvation Army Central Virginia will open its Inclement Weather Shelter on Friday, Nov. 15.
According to the organization, the shelter is located at 1900 Chamberlayne Avenue in Richmond and is for adults 18 years of age and older.
The shelter will open nightly from Nov. 15 of this year through April 15, 2025. The Salvation Army said space is available on a first come, first served basis for 60 men and 40 women.
The shelter opens each day at 5 a.m. and closes at 8 a.m. the next morning. The overnight stay includes two meals, a cot and access to a bathroom.
Persistent extreme cold or other extreme weather might extend those hours.
The men's entrance is at the back of the building, which faces Sledd Street and the U.S. Post Office, and the women's entrance is at the side alley of the building.
In addition to the Inclement Shelter, the building also houses a second emergency shelter of 50 men and the Community Resource and Training Center.
