PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Brush fires have been breaking out around Rhode Island and Massachusetts in recent days, and with no immediate end to the drought conditions in sight, the risk level remains severe. A Red Flag Warning is in effect for our entire area. With the gusty winds and lack of rain, any fires that start could rapidly spread and become difficult to extinguish. 7-DAY FORECAST: Is there any rain on the way? Because of that, people are urged to be careful when discarding cigarettes and avoid all outdoor burning, which includes the use of fire pits, charcoal grills, and any devices that could emit sparks or flames. In Massachusetts, residents are also asked to conserve water. In the video above, Meteorologist T.J. Del Santo breaks down why the fire risk is so high and what to expect in the coming days.
