MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A week after a Southaven, Mississippi mother claimed an officer pulled a stun gun on her 9-year-old son, the police department admitted to mistaking the child for a suspect.
Shaquita Anderson-Wade said earlier this week that she was awaiting answers from Southaven Police regarding the incident, but on Wednesday, the police department confirmed that they have been in communication with the mother.

They also provided additional information explaining what they say happened on the night of November 7.
Police say around 8:17 p.m., officers received a 911 call from a victim near the Civic Center Apartments for an armed robbery. The caller told police that the suspect fled the area on foot toward Turman Drive.
The victim allegedly informed police that the suspect was a "heavy-set male wearing a sweatshirt and blue jeans."
When officers arrived on the scene, one of them claimed they saw a person in the distance who was running from the parking lot toward the breezeway area of one of the apartments.
Reports say the officer stopped his vehicle and ran to the breezeway, where he yelled at the person and told them to stop running.

Police say when the officer got closer, "the officer was quickly able to see that the individual did not match the description of the armed robbery suspect." They also noted that the interaction between the officer and child "lasted just a few seconds."
The child was not injured or detained.
Southaven PD did not confirm whether or not the officer pointed a stun gun at 9-year-old Ahmar.
"Our City Police Officers are routinely required to make split-second judgments in uncertain situations, and the City Police Department is reviewing this matter, as it takes all citizen complaints seriously," said the Southaven Police Department in a statement. "The City Police strive and will continue to serve and protect the citizens of Southaven."
