A week after last week’s elections, the New York Times published an op-ed by Governor Andy Beshear titled, “I’m the Governor of Kentucky. Here’s How Democrats Can Win Again.” After unveiling the “New Kentucky Home” marketing strategy at Keeneland, Beshear said his column spelled out a direction Democrats and Republicans running for office should consider. “It’s that idea that when people wake up in the morning, they’re not thinking about politics. They’re thinking about their job and whether they make enough to support their family. They’re thinking about the doctor’s appointment coming up for their kids or their parents or themselves. They’re thinking about the roads and the bridges they drive that day, the public school they drop their kids off at, and public safety in their communities.” Beshear was asked how he’ll deal with the incoming Trump Administration’s policies on tariffs and electric vehicles. He replied that his goal is to work with any federal administration to make sure the state continues its record-setting economic growth. “I hope that the policies of the incoming administration will be positive for it, if not, my job is to work with our businesses to make sure that we can make the connections, that we can more localize their supply chains, that we can address any type of policies that might hurt those industries.” Asked about his plans after leaving office in late ’27, Beshear said his only focus is making sure that Kentucky moves forward. Beshear was considered as a running mate for Vice President Harris this year and some consider him a contender for the White House in ’28. ** WEKU is working hard to be a leading source for public service, and fact-based journalism.
