North Carolina man arrested on child exploitation charges

NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) — Law enforcement officers with the Craven County Sheriff's Office arrested a New Bern man on child exploitation charges.
Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Bureau at the sheriff's office executed a search warrant on November 7, as part of an ongoing child exploitation investigation. Multiple cyber tips were received by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The tips reported that a man possessed Child Sexual Abuse Material.
Joseph Thomas Smith, 26 years old, was arrested and charged with second and third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. He was given a $750,000 secured bond.
