Man in United States illegally convicted of attempted homicide in Fond du Lac County

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) - Authorities in Fond du Lac say the suspect involved in a stabbing on March 22 was in the United States illegally and has officially been convicted of attempted homicide after pleading no contest.
According to a release from Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney, 50-year-old Fermin Teodoro Lopez-Mendoza pleaded no contest to Attempted First Degree Intentional Homicide, with a dangerous weapon and domestic abuse.

It was noted that during the investigation, law enforcement learned that Lopez-Mendoza was illegally in the United States. Lopez-Mendoza's bond was revoked and a sentencing date has been set for March 18, 2025.
Back in March, Lopez-Menzoda allegedly stabbed a woman, identified as his wife, with a steak knife inside a private residence on County Highway K in Fond du Lac.
Deputies with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office say they were able to locate and arrest Lopez-Mendoza during a traffic stop in Ozaukee County, just over 24 hours after he had fled the scene of the stabbing.
