Spread kindness to others on World Kindness Day
Nov 13, 2024
NORTH DAKOTA (KXNET) — November 13 marks World Kindness Day, a celebration that reminds us that a simple act can make the biggest difference.
The celebration was introduced in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement (WKM) to inspire people and nations to create a kinder world.
"World Kindness Day serves as a reminder that compassion for others is what binds us all as human beings. It's about taking a moment to look beyond our differences and recognizing our shared humanity," David Jamilly, the frontman for Kindness Day UK emphasized.
Kindness can have a ripple effect — one thing can lead to more and more from others.
Participating in the day is simple but impactful. You can:
Perform acts of kindness: Help a neighbor, compliment a colleague, buy a cup of coffee
Spread uplifting messages on social media
Volunteer at a charity or nonprofit
Teach kids about the importance of empathy
Things to do around town: November 11-17
Kindness, according to research, is beneficial for both the giver and the receiver. The act releases oxytocin (the "love hormone"), which lowers blood pressure and improves overall health. It can also increase serotonin and dopamine levels.
Since we live in a very connected world, the chances to spread kindness have never been greater. Social media is a powerful tool for sharing acts of kindness and inspiring others.
"The internet has given us the ability to create a chain of kindness that spans the globe. One post, one video, one kind message can inspire thousands to act with compassion," noted Orly Wahba, the coordinator of the Global Flashmob for World Kindness Day.
Since the day is observed globally, it serves as a reminder that compassion is a universal language.
Companies that foster a positive and kind culture usually see improvements in employee satisfaction, productivity, and customer loyalty.
Participating in acts of kindness can also reduce stress, anxiety, and depression by fostering a sense of connection and purpose.
World Kindness Day supporters say the day is more than just a calendar date, it's a call to action, an invitation to transform the world.
