AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department said it was investigating a homicide that occurred last week in east Austin. APD said officers responded to a call and found a man, later identified as 20-year-old Matthew Escalante, with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital for treatment but died Nov. 8, according to police. APD said an investigation showed Escalante arrived to meet someone, but was shot by a suspect who then left the area with additional suspects. According to police, a shooting occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, in the 2600 block of Rosewood Avenue. This case is being investigated as Austin's 58th homicide of 2024. MAP: Where have Austin’s homicides occurred in 2024? Detectives asked anyone with information about any of the suspects to come forward. APD said to contact the department at 512-974-TIPS. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for any information that leads to an arrest.
