Austin Police Department officers shot and killed a man at a northwest Austin apartment complex last Thursday morning, after the man reportedly shot at APD first, according to Davis. It happened at the MAA Canyon Creek Apartments.
APD said it started with the suspect stealing cars at the nearby Four Points shopping plaza. Officers later learned the person had a shotgun and another weapon, according to APD.
APD said officers found a stolen vehicle at an apartment complex where the person kicked in the door to one of the units. As he began to leave, APD said officers asked him to stop, but he did not.
According to police, the man started to run, turned around and shot at police. APD said the officers shot back, killing the man. No officers were injured.
Police Chief Davis scheduled a press conference for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday where she is expected to share more information about the shooting. This story will be updated with details from the conference.
