Suspect pleads not guilty to Florence shooting

FLORENCE, Mass. (WWLP) - The identity of the man accused of shooting a 50-year-old woman in Northampton over the weekend has been released.

Michael Janik of Pencasal Drive in Florence is being held without bail after his arraignment on Tuesday. The 65-year-old was arrested after a woman called the police on Sunday morning around 8:30 a.m.
She told them she had run from her home after being shot in the stomach, and the man who shot her was still inside. When police got there, they said he was arrested without incident.
Janik pled not guilty in Northampton District Court to seven charges, including armed assault with intent to murder; assault and battery with a dangerous weapon; assault and battery on a family or household member; three counts of illegal possession of an assault weapon and a single count of improper storage of a firearm.
The woman's name has not been released and she is recovering in the hospital.
