ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WLNE) — The city of Attleboro plans to pull water from its neighbors in surrounding towns and from Rhode Island.
According to a report from the city’s water department, Orr’s Pond and Manchester Pond, which provide most of the city’s water, are seeing historically low levels.
Attleboro is now considered to be in a level 2 drought, and the town is now in a conservation emergency.
“What this means is that our groundwater levels have declined. That means there’s less in our rivers and our lakes and it means I’m asking the public to conserve water at this time because we need it to fight fires,” Governor Maura Healey told residents.
First responders are also strongly urging people to avoid outdoor burning.
Residents with questions about will be able to ask them during a community meeting next Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Attleboro High School.
