Discussion:
Chilly start to the day with afrost advisory in effect for Stanly County until 9am. Today will be cooler with highs struggling to break out of the upper 50s as high pressure holds over the Carolinas. It will remain and sunny and dry this afternoon, but clouds fill in tonight ahead of a cold front.Showers will spread across the region with steady rain likely by daybreak Thursday. It will be chilly and wet with highs only reaching the upper 40s to lower 50s across the area. There could be some pockets of heavier rain setting up by the afternoon. Rainfall totals will top out between 1/2 to 1″ with the highest totals up to 1.5″ across the foothills and mountains. Rain clears by Thursday night with drier air streaming back in for the weekend. Highs will bounce back into the low 60s Friday and near 70 by early next week.
Tropics:
A broad area of low pressure in the Central Caribbean has a high chance of development. It will likely become a tropical depression within the next few days as it moves westward into the western Caribbean. It is expected to shift northwest by early next week and could bring heavy rain to Jamaica and parts of Haiti. It will be something to watch over the next week for the U.S. as models are hinting at rapid intensification of this storm. The next name on the 2024 Atlantic Basin Hurricane Name list is Sara. Atlantic Hurricane Season ends November 30.
