Alameda BBQ spot named among ‘best new restaurants in America’
Nov 12, 2024
(KRON) -- A barbecue joint in Alameda was named among the 14 "best new restaurants in America" by Eater.
The story published on Tuesday listed 14 of the top newly opened restaurants across the country from Vermont to Houston to Seattle. Fikscue in Alameda was one of the restaurants recognized.
Iconic SF restaurant to open on Thanksgiving for first-time ever
The restaurant describes its cuisine as "serving halal Texas barbecue with Indonesian fusion dishes." The chefs Fik and Reka Saleh began serving barbecue from their backyard in 2020 and opened a restaurant on Park Street in 2023. It will later open a second location in San Francisco's Mission Bay.
Fik taught himself how to make brisket after a trip to Austin in 2017. Seven years later, his restaurant is nationally acclaimed.
"Saleh cuts slices of tender, wobbly brisket for customers after a 21-hour process of trimming, seasoning, and smoking." Eater wrote. "Indeed, many trek across the Bay Bridge from nearby San Francisco and wait up to two hours for mouthfuls of colossal beef dino ribs cut thick to order and sliced brisket prepared in a Texas-made 500-gallon smoker."
The menu offerings include smoked brisket, dino ribs and smoked fried chicken. Reka cooks Indonesian food such as curry and fried rice.
Fikscue's San Francisco location is set to open near Thrive City in early 2025.
