FREMONT, Calif. (KRON) -- The Fremont city council approved an ordinance that would crack down on large vehicles, including recreational vehicles, from parking in neighborhoods.
Fremont mayor-elect and councilmember Raj Salwan says dealing with RVs in this Alameda County city is a balancing act. On Tuesday night, the full council decided to approve an amended ordinance that would prohibit RVs like this one by Irvington High School to stay longer than 72 hours.
"We can't have needles, and it is a public safety issue," Salwan said.

If the vehicle does stay longer, police can warn the owner and then possibly remove the vehicle.
"We want to help, but we also have to balance public safety," Salwan said.
The mayor-elect says some neighbors have complained about this RV.In April, another ordinance went into effect which cleared away other RVs parked at Hirsh and Horner schools.
These RVs are off of Albrae, located in an industrial section of Fremont. The amended ordinance does not apply to these RVs, but the council is looking into taking steps to address this situation as well.
