A cold front is bringing in cooler temperatures right now into New Mexico. Temperatures will warm up again later this weekend ahead of another storm. It was a breezy afternoon across parts of New Mexico Tuesday. Wind gusts have been as high as 40 mph at times, especially across the higher elevations and in western New Mexico. Ruidoso Sierra Blanca Airport measured a wind gust of nearly 40 mph. This is part of a storm system that's scraping the state, but not bringing us any moisture. It's also sending a cold front across the state. That front has nearly moved across the entire state tonight. Winds have mostly died down tonight too, but it will be an even colder night for many with cooler high temperatures Wednesday afternoon. A warming trend begins Thursday and will continue into Friday. Southwest winds start picking up Friday afternoon as our next storm system begins approaching the state. The warmer weather will stick around into Saturday, along with the wind. Moisture from the storm starts moving in Saturday night. There is a lot of inconsistency with this upcoming storm system though. What we know is there will be a storm and it will bring in widespread chances for rain and higher elevation snow, especially on Sunday. The big questions are how much, where, and how long it will stick around. Continue to stay tuned to this forecast.
