SCSO: Man cited for firing gun at Wolf River said he was shooting at aggressive racoon

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A man cited for allegedly firing a gun at the Wolf River Refuge Trailhead was booked in the Shelby County Jail Tuesday after he failed to make a court appearance.
Jordan Davis, 23, is facing a misdemeanor charge of carrying a weapon on recreational property.
According to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, the incident happened on September at 9:24 p.m. at the park on South Walnut Bend Loop.

A deputy said he heard gunfire, and Davis admitted to firing the shots. Davis said he was trying to shoot a raccoon that approached him near the parking lot and said the shooting was in self-defense.

It does not appear the raccoon was hit. The deputy said he found a firearm inside Davis' truck.
Davis is being held on a $1,500 bond.
