Eden woman leaves behind legacy of love

EDEN, N.C. (WGHP) -- The city of Eden is mourning the loss of a woman who had a hand in almost everything that went on in town and put her whole heart into anything she did.
Peggy Good passed away Tuesday morning unexpectedly at 77 years old, leaving behind a legacy that will leave a mark on Eden forever.
Rhonda Price, half of David Price Auto Works, has known Peggy for decades, and she can’t picture Eden without Peggy.
“She’s going to leave a big hole,” said Price.
Peggy has a long backstory in the small city in Rockingham County. She and her husband owned A Stitch in Time on Washington Street. The faded logo is still visible in Eden’s downtown. She became president of the Merchant’s Association and was passionate about downtown revival.
“She knew the people to contact. She knew how to get the ball rolling. She was there from start to finish in the planning, in the working and in the cleanup. We could always count on her year to year to year,” Price said.
One of those labors of love was the Olde Leaksville Nighttime Christmas parade, which had fallen by the wayside a decade ago.
“Our parade was non-existent. We had a day parade. Peggy had the idea to bring it back as a nighttime parade,” Price said.
Eventually, she retired from parade organizing. This year, three local business owners took the helm to keep the parade alive. They named her grand marshal just two weeks before she passed away.
As each float passes and each child smiles with joy during this year’s parade, they know Peggy will be there watching.
“She will be there in memory. She will be guiding us,” Price said.
Her arrangements will be posted online when they are finalized.
