GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - Green Bay alders spent an hour and a half discussing Lambeau Field lease negotiations in the closed-session portion of their common council meeting on Tuesday night. City boards can discuss matters related to ongoing contract or lease negotiations behind closed doors, so they don't give away their negotiating strategies to outside sources. It's both legal and something that happens frequently in all municipalities. After returning to open session, the alders passed a motion to "proceed as discussed" in the closed-door meeting. The Packers spoke out publicly to air their grievances about the process in mid-October. Shortly after that, Green Bay alders held a press conference to give their side of the story. After that press conference, the Packers announced a new lease offer. Taxpayers will have no obligation in that investment. The extended lease includes the current rent escalator, as the City requested, and extends 30 years. All other terms of the current lease will remain the same, as it has worked well since its inception in 2001. The current Lambeau Field lease expires in 2032.
