Couple hit by car, injured while sleeping in bed: Police

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- It was a close call when a sleeping couple was hit and injured by a vehicle that crashed into their home in the middle of the night.
El Cajon Police are investigating after a car crashed into a condo in the 900 block of Jamacha Road in El Cajon at 2:10 a.m. Tuesday.

Police say a man and woman were hit by the vehicle while they were sleeping in their bed and that the vehicle was almost entirely inside the home.
The man was seriously injured, while the woman was reported to have minor injuries. Both victims were taken to the hospital.

Police detained the driver -- a 26-year-old El Cajon man -- while they conducted field sobriety tests and later released him.
Following an initial investigation, El Cajon Police reports the crash happened because of excessive speed and a curve in the roadway.

Not only are the couple left to recover, a building inspector has deemed the building unsafe after the overnight crash.
El Cajon Police Department and Heartland Fire & Rescue responded to the scene.
