Endofseason dates announced for Springfield golf courses

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The City of Springfield has announced the closing dates for its two municipal golf courses as the season comes to an end.
Veterans Golf Course will close for the season on Sunday, November 17, while Franconia Golf Course will remain open until Sunday, December 1. Both golf courses are scheduled to reopen in the spring.
Veterans Golf Course is closing earlier to accommodate clubhouse renovations, part of a $5 million investment in both municipal courses. These upgrades have significantly enhanced the facilities and playing experience, making Springfield’s golf courses a regional attraction.
“I commend and thank our Parks, Buildings, and Recreation Management (PBRM) team for their ongoing excellent stewardship of our municipal golf courses.,” said Springfield Mayor Domenic J. Sarno. “Mass Golf recently chose our Veterans course to host two major USGA Qualifying events – and are quickly becoming a hidden jewel in the region, while also offering some of the most affordable rates in the area.”
Franconia and Veterans Golf Courses are both 18-hole facilities that have seen substantial improvements. New accessibility features, including adaptive golf carts, have made the courses more inclusive for players with disabilities. The courses also reintroduced a youth golf program for Springfield Middle School students, providing an opportunity to learn and enjoy the game.
“We have also been able to reintroduce the city’s youth golf program for our Springfield middle schoolers and add two adaptive golf carts for folks with disability challenges,” said Parks, Buildings, and Recreation Management Director Thomas Ashe. “Next season we will have two completely renovated clubhouses and look forward to expanding more programs.”
During the season, both courses are open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to dusk, and Saturday and Sunday from 6:30 a.m. to dusk. Tee times are required on weekends and are optional during weekdays.
