SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) - The Savannah Police Department (SPD) and Chatham County Animal Services (CCAS) rescued a dog near flood water on Friday. On Thursday, November 7, 2024, at approximately 5:45 p.m., SPD Sergeant Sharif Lockett and CCAS Officer Steve Workman responded to the 4300 Block of ACL Boulevard for a report of a dog that appeared to be drowning due to the recent flooding caused by heavy rainfall. The officers heard the dog crying for help from behind a locked gate in a private lot while searching the area. The owner of the lot responded to the location to open the gate. Officers then walked through the flood waters to the back area, where the dog had found high ground. Officer Workman put a safety rope around her while Sgt. Lockett carried her out of the flooded lot. The dog has been nicknamed "Rain" and is currently safe at the Chatham County Animal Shelter 912-652-6575, where she is up for adoption.
